Diane’s Parent Quick Note
January 2009

United Way Contributor Choice #: 2646

Happy Holidays! The members of the board and staff wish you and your family a wonderful holiday season.

Planning Reminders:

MLEDP is closed: From Wednesday, December 24 until Monday, January 5. Centers will be open at 7 a.m. on Monday, January 5.

For MLSD School Delays: MLEDP opens at 7 AM and the children remain in the center until the start of school, usually 10 AM. Please note, that if a delay becomes a closing, you will be contacted and asked to come for your child. MLEDP has to vacate the building as soon as possible when a delay changes to a closing. To ensure the safety of the children, it is not possible to transport children and combine sites on such a day.

MLSD CLOSING: No care is available if MLSD calls a closing for the day because of bad weather or any emergency. Announcements for closings will be on the local cable station as well as KDKA, WTAE and WPXI.

Please think about alternative plans for these occasions.

January Long Days: On January 19 and January 20 our centers will be combined and open from 7:00 am – 6:30 pm. Please check at your center for more information. The fee is $38.00 per day.

Kindergarten Care Open: In addition to the district-wide Long Days, MLEDP Kindergarten Care will be open from 7:00 am until 6:30 pm for Long Days on January 29 and 30 (Kdg. Parent Conferences for MLSD). The fee is $38.00 per day.

Parent Survey: The survey is on the web site and you can complete the survey and submit it anonymously at any time during the year. All surveys are shared with the members of the board.

We appreciate your feedback. Some parents who have returned their survey already have asked about an earlier opening time in the morning (6 or 6:30 a.m.). Due to contractual agreements with the school district, and, as part of our lease agreement, we must open at 7:00 a.m.

Please Note: Child Care Payments Summary for Calendar Year 2008: If you require a printed summary of your tuition payments for CY 2008, for tax purposes, send an e-mail to accounting@mledp.org or fax your request to our office, fax# 412-343-0675. You can also leave a message request 412-343-1661 x111. A statement of your payments will be e-mailed to you or faxed to you.

Kindergarten Care SY 2009-10 Space is Limited: Since November 1, enrollments have been submitted. If you will need care in our Kindergarten Care Program for the next school year, now is the time to go to the web site and submit your Kindergarten Care Pre-registration form.

Summer Fun 2009: Plans are just getting underway for Summer Fun 2009. Information will be distributed in February. We are excited to be returning to Mt. Lebanon Christian Church for our fourth year of the Summer Fun program. MLEDP is very appreciative of the MLCC Trustees response to our request to return. Enrollment begins February 1 (forms will be on the web site – please wait for updated 2009 calendar).

Program Activities: At our sites, children have been working on a variety of projects, including service projects for others. All of our sites have computers for the children to use for homework as well as playing games. At all sites, except one, access to the Internet is available (MLEDP has a superior adult block). Children are also able to instant message with friends at other MLEDP sites, and, in some instances, with selected family and friends outside of MLEDP.

Fire Safety and Emergency Evacuation: Staff members at all sites have completed their annual training. The MLFD has been to each of the sites to review fire safety rules and witness the evacuation of the children during a drill.

DPW Inspections: To date, scheduled annual licensing inspections have been successfully completed at Hoover, Jefferson and Washington and Foster. Markaham’s inspection is scheduled for January. Lincoln and Howe’s annual inspections will be completed in March. Licensing representatives review annually the safety of our sites, fire drill logs, emergency plans, the children’s files and the staff files.

MLEDP Tuition Payment and Delinquent Account Policy
Revised Policy Adopted by the Board of Directors November 13, 2008

Timely payment of tuition is of critical importance to Mt. Lebanon Extended Day Program (MLEDP). The Board of Directors takes this obligation very seriously. The failure to pay monthly tuition when due creates a cash flow problem for MLEDP and causes those who make timely payments of their tuition to bear a disproportionate share of MLEDP’s financial obligations. The following are MLEDP’s tuition practices and policies.

  1. 15 days past due. The Bookkeeper will contact clients by phone or letter, whose accounts are 15 days past due, to inform them that their account is delinquent and to request payment within 5 business days.
  2. 30 days past due. The Executive Director will notify clients by phone or letter, whose accounts are 30 days past due, to inform them that their account is delinquent and to request immediate payment. The client will be informed that care for the child/children will terminate once their account is 31 days past due.
  3. Reenrollment of the client’s child/children who has had care terminated will be required to pay all past due amounts, prepay tuition equal to 3 months enrollment and pay the standard registration fee.
  4. MLEDP reserves the right to take any and all action, legal and otherwise, deemed necessary and desirable for the collection of unpaid account balances past due. Such action may include reporting the client to a credit reporting agency.
