Counselor-In-Training (CIT)
for the Summer Fun Program

 

Welcome to the Counselor-In-Training (CIT) section of the Summer Fun Program of MLEDP. Below you will find all the necessary information and forms to be filled out in order to participate as a CIT in the Summer Fun Program.

CIT's will be scheduled to work a few hours, several days a week based on availability. Each will be guided by MLEDP staff. As a CIT you will receive Fire Safety Training, Basic First Aid Review and preperation for the development of the age you will work with.The CIT program will be overseen by the Program Director: Dawn Chrestay.

Some of the goals and outcomes you might expect as a CIT are as follows:

  • To build relationships
  • Provide role models for the children
  • Provide opportunities for taking initiative
  • Making peer influences positive
  • Tapping the desire to make commitments
  • Provide safe opportunities for risk taking
  • Provide positive support and encouragement
  • Encourage responsibility
  • Increase participation by older children
  • Increase the older child's self-confidence, tolerance, ability to set goals, problem solve, and decision making abilities
  • Have additional trained eyes, ears, and hands in the program operation
  • Show the ability to work with children and staff
  • Display outstanding character
 
If you choose to apply for the CIT program you will be required to:
  • Have completed the 6th grade to be eligible to be a CIT
  • Participate in an interview (for new applicants only)
  • Participate in a 2 Hour Training Session that will include:
    • The Philosophy of MLEDP
    • Development of Children-Ages Assigned
    • First Aid Discussion
    • Fire Safety
  • Completion of the following 7 forms (forms are located further down the page)
    • CIT Application
    • CIT Responsibility Form
    • CIT Calendar of Availability
    • CIT Minor Release
    • CIT Reference Letter
    • CIT Parental Consent & Emergency Contact Form
    • Child Health Assessment Form

                 Note: You will need to print 2 copies of this form. You need 2 references to apply.

6 - CIT Parental Consent & Emergency Contact Form - Required

7 - Child Health Assessment Form - Required

NOTE: If you are new to the program or we do not have a valid Child Health Assessment Form on file (valid for one year), you and your doctor must complete this form prior to your child participating in the Summer Fun Program as a CIT. You may also get a copy of a valid Physical Form that is on file with the school and use as a substitute to the Child Health Assessment Form. This is a requirement of the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare.
